This has been rolling around in my head for a while, so I figured it was time to transform the swirling thoughts into words. For me, the experience of “finding my cheese” has meant literally quitting my corporate job to dive headfirst into a career in the cheese industry. This life-altering change of course was actually precipitated by a pandemic-era cheese tasting at The Grey Barn & Farm. The MV Times was kind enough to chronicle this journey in their “Second Acts” series, here.
And now here I am nearly five years after committing my life to cheese, about to welcome our second child into the world, and I can’t help but get emotional. Blame the hormones that come with being 37 weeks pregnant, but I feel so lucky to find myself in this position. I’ve got a business that I’m really excited about building and growing (I’ve got so many hopes ‘n dreams for little ol’ MV Cheesery, even if it is on the WAY back burner at the moment). I’m in an industry with deeply passionate people that inspire me every day. I focus on a subject matter that I find endlessly fascinating, that I can spend my whole life learning about and still not know it all. I have a literal cheese-travel bucket list of places I want to go, people I want to meet, cheeses I want to taste. I feel so, SO lucky.
So yes, for me, “finding your cheese” has literally meant finding my way into the world of cheese. But it doesn’t have to mean that for you! Your cheese could be anything that you feel deeply passionate about or endlessly fascinates you. After all, the word “cheese” holds so many different meanings…
📸 Cheese as a Smile or Facial Expression. Your cheese = your happiness.
🎭 Cheesy as Over-the-Top or Corny. Your cheese = your silliness.
🤑 Cheese (or Cheddar) as Money. Your cheese = your prosperity.
💼 The Big Cheese as The Big Boss. Your cheese = your power.
💨 Cutting the Cheese as Farting. Your cheese = not taking yourself too seriously.
The list goes on and on! And don’t even get me started on cheese puns!
So in summary, I’m excited to share more thoughts on Substack about “finding your cheese”. Common topics of my Monger Musings will inevitably center around the intersection of cheese specifically, food in general, social justice, sustainability, personal development, parenthood, and Martha’s Vineyard. I’ll also work to weave in themes of finding happiness, silliness, prosperity, power, and not taking ourselves too seriously.
So glad you’re here, friends!
